A Week of Food

The photos below are from the book "Hungry Planet: What the World Eats" by Peter Menzel and Faith D'Aluisio, a photographic study of families from around the world, revealing what people eat during the course of one week. Each family's profile includes a detailed description.

  1. Fascinating. Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was an equal worldwide distribution of wealth and everyone had access to as much food as they needed? Well I guess it will happen when pigs can fly :-((

  2. Gotta love how the Kuwaiti family has the domestic help in the picture, away from the family.

    I have to share this!

  3. @Ayak
And all that packaging too! The amount of waste involved in food production is incredible.
I suppose it would have appeared to be propaganda if they had shown an obese American family but I do wonder if that wouldn't have been more representative. :)
I was surprised to see how little fresh fruit and vegetables are in the Western families' diet. Wonder what the Turkish family photo would have been like in comparison?
I know that I personally eat a lot more vegetables and fruit.. but is that because I live here? I can't recall how much fresh produce I bought and ate in the states.

Actually the more you look at these pictures the more messages you can get out of them. Feel free to link this post anywhere you like.
