Bristol Palin: Not Afraid

BPmoneyWhen you look over the quotes that Bristol Palin has made about sex, makin' babies and abstinence, it's easy to get a little muddled. She has reportedly stated:

"If girls realized the consequences of sex, nobody would be having sex," says Bristol, sitting at her parents' lakeside patio table. "Trust me. Nobody."

Looks like somebody forgot to teach somebody about the facts of life?

However, during her mother's GOP vice-presidential campaign –Bristol told reporters that her mother's view of abstinence, especially in regard to teenagers, is "not realistic at all." http://goo.gl/enPRu

“I think abstinence is like, like the, uh, I don’t know how to put it like, the main, everyone should be abstinent or whatever but it’s not realistic at all.”

Of course, if Bristol Palin's views on sex and abstinence are a tad confused, why is it much of a surprise? Her mother seems to have had the same problem.

In an article in Business Insider we learn this: One of her former aides when Palin was governor. Frank Bailey's writes in his soon to be published book, In Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin: A Memoir of Our Tumultuous Years that in the early days of the campaign, the Alaska governor "went into a panic" because she didn't remember what her public stance on sex education was. Palin "ordered" him to examine the Alaska Family Council campaign survey from 2006 to find out whether she was in favor of abstinence-only education, he writes.

"When I found out Sarah had indicated she supported abstinence-until-marriage education and explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support, we realized an unwed pregnant daughter made that position potentially embarrassing. We focused on the word explicit to downplay Sarah's opposition."

But then John McCain, her running mate back in the 2008 president election, also seemed a might confused when asked about his stand on sex education. When asked John McCain has said "I think I support the President's policy" on sex ed. (George Bush's policy, incidentally, was to shovel over $1 billion federal dollars at abstinence-only programs.)

Despite her mother's clear views on abortion, (she's not at all for it) Bristol Palin has also said, "It was my choice to have the baby. It doesn't matter what my mom's views are on it. It was my decision." What was there to decide?

Maybe there was more to the quote than meets the eye.

She told Greta Van Susteren on a FOX News segment that aired Monday night. "I hope people learn from my story ... It's so much easier if you're married, have a house and career. It's not a situation you want to strive for."

Levi Johnstons’ sister, Mercede, recently launched a blog in which she revealed that teen pregnancy has exploded in the Palin’s hometown of Wasilla because young ladies are interested in the “attention, money and fame that Bristol has received.”

How sad these young girl’s lives must be for them to believe that becoming pregnant was their only hope of finding love and getting attention from those around them. I wish I could reach out to these young girls and explain to them that they have their whole lives ahead of them, and there are other ways to get attention without going out and sleeping around just to receive gifts at a baby shower, have people comment on your belly, and buy cute baby clothes. http://goo.gl/2TxZY

More extraordinarily, Mercede also reveals that Bristol and Levi were actively trying to conceive a child and that Tripp’s birth was no accident. http://goo.gl/kw7pm

During that time period she and Levi were sexually active and trying to conceive a child. As hard as it is for many of you to believe, they were indeed TRYING. It was NOT an accident! Also there were a number of rumors circulating around that she was already pregnant.

Bristol Palin has been in the spotlight recently when it emerged that she has found a new career- other than hoofing it up on "Dancing with the Stars." As an "Ambassador" for The Candies Foundation, she raked in an spectacular salary. According to an article in Forbes,

Apparently, the organization was only able to find $35,000 to grant to charities from the $1,242,476 donated from the public. Meanwhile, the young Ms. Palin managed to pull in a $262,500 paycheck for her role as an ambassador for their teen pregnancy prevention campaign in 2009. http://goo.gl/JoCsI

It looks like Bristol has done pretty well despite being a teen mom. She has reportedly had a breast reduction and a chin implant. (Some say it was merely liposuction of her double chin.) The former Alaskan governor's daughter dropped $172,000 in cash for a 5-bedroom house in Maricopa, Arizona, http://goo.gl/9Ge96. Additionally there is a book deal too.

Not too shabby, I'd say.

Update:

Since I printed this, my readers tell me my figures here are way WAY off and looking into that, I am afraid I have to apologize. I've seriously miscalculated. I hadn't realized, naïve peasant that I am, that she actually got paid for her stint with "Dancing with the Stars."

"Bristol made over $345,000 from being on the show and currently is getting $35,000 for each speaking gig she does," an insider reveals to PopEater. "Yet, all that is going to feel like pocket change if one or two of the big deals she's currently working on actually happens." http://goo.gl/DsXCw

Additionally Palin works on the speakers' circuit asking between $15,000 and $30,000 for each appearance. She has signed with Single Source Speakers and is listed on their website as available for conferences, fundraisers, special events and holidays, as well as women's, youth, abstinence and pro-life programs.

I suppose even that doesn't include the top dollar she receives for magazine interviews.

Jumping Jehoshaphat!

  1. Not to shabby, but entirely disgusting. The Candies Foundation is a sham operation and should be taxed by the IRS. Any 401C3 that is not donating back 75% of the funds the take in is not a charitable anything...except charity to its executives and 'talent.' But then, no one said the Palins were charitable people. Sarah has yet to donate her time to anything...she takes her $100,000 from every organization she tells her spiel to. Funny how some of them are just starting up, hire Sarah, raise money for the event, and then just disappear. Legal? Probably. Ethical? Not at all, just like the Palin women.

  2. Joe, you forgot the $70K she was given in 2010. Will be interesting to find out if she got anything this year. Guess she's losing her "appeal" and they just have her on retainer as their real "charity".
