Batman v.s. Batman

The Mayor of Batman, an ancient oil-producing city in southeastern Turkey, is hoping to receive royalties if he is successful in suing the director of The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan.

Hüseyin Kalkan, the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party mayor of the city, claims that American producers took the name of his city without telling him or his people.

He said: "There is only one Batman in the world. The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."

Kalkan also blames a series of unsolved murders in his city on the psychological impact of the film's success.

Former residents of the city of Batman also claim that Hollywood executives have banned them from using the name of their home town when setting up businesses abroad.

As part of his case, mayor Kalkan will produce evidence proving that the town's Neolithic origins predate the 1939 debut of the comic hero.

Editor’s Note: Kalkan was the name of a dog food as I recall. Will this be the mayor’s next foray into justice? Perhaps he will take on the turkey-bird? How DO these people get elected?
